Preventative Care

Here at Smile Stories, we are firm believers of disease prevention. In addition to treating oral issues and getting kids out of any discomfort, we are even more passionate about helping them develop sustainable habits at home as well as utilize effective prevention measures at our office.

Dental Exams

Children and teenagers grow quickly! Like your child’s pediatrician visits, seeing Dr. Joyce regularly allows your child’s oral health to be appropriately monitored and cared for based on a preventative care approach.

Six Month Cleanings

Routine exams & cleanings are usually performed every 6 months to ensure proper maintenance and prevention. Sometimes, children require more frequent cleanings if they are at a moderate to high risk in getting tooth decay.

Flouride Treatments

Fluoride treatments in the dental office provides extra protection for your child’s teeth. In this treatment, fluoride is applied directly to the tooth enamel which allows maximum anti-cavity benefit while minimizing any systemic effect of fluoride intake. It only takes a minute and is generally well-tolerated by children big and small.

Dietary Counseling

The common saying of “you are what you eat” signifies the importance of food to every person. This is especially true for growing children. Introducing healthier food options early on is a great way to get kids excited about eating the right way into their adulthood.  We are here to offer tips and guidance that can help your child develop a healthy palate while minimizing their risk for dental caries.

Oral Hygiene Instruction

Good habits formed at a young age make all the difference. Children's oral hygiene is an important part of their overall health, and we’re here to assist them as they develop these important habits. If you have younger children who need your assistance with oral care at home—you are not alone, and we are here to help!

Protective Dental Sealants

A dental sealant is a paint-on protective coating which helps prevent tooth decay and cavities. This non-invasive procedure is usually performed on the back teeth since they tend to be hard to reach and have rougher surfaces. Sealants are a very effective way to block out cavity-causing bacteria.
